What you should take into consideration is the non-refundable fee for the visa interview ($160), plus the non-refundable SEVIS fee, required by the U.S. Department of State ($35).

 

Another important matter is the cost of the flight – prices, duration and transfers may vary according to the location and the time in advance it is booked.

 

Different agencies offer varying options for deferred payment.

 

Obtaining a visa: the J-1 Visa is a non-immigrant visa issued by a consular official at a U.S. Embassy. Eligibility for a J-1 Visa depends on the specific exchange program being offered to the J-1 non-immigrant by a sponsor organization.

 

 

Every candidate is required to have the following documents in order to start the application procedure:

 

  • – a valid passport;

 

  • – a completed DS-160 Application form;

 

  • – a DS-2019 form (acceptance to a designated exchange visitor program) – the original and one photocopy;

 

  • – a 35 USD SEVIS fee payment receipt;

 

  • – a payment receipt for the visa fee (160 USD);

 

  • – a student book (студентска книжка);

 

  • – a certificate (уверение) issued by the education instituting;

 

  • – an additional photo;

 

  • – any other documents the applicant feels are necessary to illustrate strong ties to Bulgaria.
